Adventure tour – A8: TOUR TO HOVD & BAYAN-ULGII
Ethnographic and nature tour

Day 1: Arrive Ulaanbaatar
Tour begins: Transfer to Hotel. City orientation tour. Visit the Bogd Khaan Palace , a series of beautiful traditional buildings in which the last religious King of Mongolia resided. Dinner will be at the Modern Nomads restaurant. Overnight will be at the hotel. (D)

Day 2: Arrive Hovd town
Fly to Hovd town 1425km, which is a good place to base your trip. Hovd has good air connections with Ulaanbaatar, and is the main city of western Mongolia. Accommodate in Mongon Uul tourist camp. City sighseeing tour including Cemtral square of Ard Ayush, local museum, Sangiin Herem – remains of fortress of Manchu headquarter. Lunch, dinnner and overnight at camp. (B+L+D)

Day 3: Introduction do Hovd
Trip to lake Khar Us Nuur (40 km), which was designated as a National park in 1997. It is a home and last refuge for rare and very wildlife species. Also, it is a distinctive and unique natural place composed of mountains with fresh water resources of our country, Gobi desert, steppe valleys, and the Mongolian Altai Mountains covered with snow.

The national park was enrolled in the list of the Ramsar Convention in 1999 due to its suitable environment for water and marsh bird species. Light lunch at the lakeside.

Trip continues to Tsenkher Agui cave (80 km). The cave is about 20 meters high and was inhabited 40 000-12000 years ago in the Paleolithic Era. Cave paintings are amazing.

The paint pigment is composed of red and brown earths. Soot from smoke also covers the walls and roof of the cave. Amongst the paintings of Mountain Goats, Buffalo and birds are what appear to be Ostrich and Elephant, both long extinct in Mongolia. It has been enjoyed the state protection since 1971.

Enjoy a Mongolian national food – Horhog at river side of Tsenheriin (nearby a cave).

On the way back to Mongon Uul camp (110 km) see the rock paintings in a place Tsagaan Burgasni Adag, also watch wild goats on the rocky mountain. Dinner and overnight at camp. (B+L+D)

Day 4: Arrive BAYAN-ULGI town
Trip to Bayan-Ulgii town (220 km). On the way see:

the large Tsambagarav mountain with eternal snow on the border of Khovd aimag and Bayan-Ulgii aimag, it's elevation is 4195 meters above sea level. Interesting information on “Almas” (men of snow) living on the mountain was published in the magazine ‘Science and Life' in 1991.

Tolbo Nuur is a lake of 185 km2 whose surface is at 2080 meters above see level. The lake water is crystal clear and fresh.

Further drive through the glacial moraine.

There are opportunities to visit nomads with eagles-hunters and falcons

Monument to Hasbaatar, national hero of Mongolia, who was fighting against foreign and Mongolian feudalistic for the freedom of Mongolian people.

Arrive in Bayan-Ulgii city. Bayan –Ulgii province is Mongolia's “Root of the World”, a remote land of high mountains, even glaciers, steep slopes and rushing torrents. Accommodate in local hotel. (B+L+D)

Day 5: 4374meters above see level Altai Tavan Bogd
Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park (200 km). This Park includes very high peaks, with eternal snow and glaciers in the Far West of Mongolia. The highest point is the peak of Khuiten Uul on the mountain of Altai Tavan Bogd, reaching 4374 meters above see level.

Arrive at the base camp place (further is not allowed to drive by car). Altai Tavan Bogd mountains are the State protected place and also a place of border zone. Establish your tents and enjoy the beautiful scenery nearby a mountain stream. Campfire, dinner. Overnight in tents. (B+L+D)

Day 6: walking or horsback riding
Work or ride horses for about 7 km to reach the glacier. Enjoy the view of gracious Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain and Cold peak with everlasting snow and a bluest sky. Picnic lunch in the mountains. Return to a base camp. (B+L+D)

Day 7: ethnic trip
Free day to enjoy the view and visiting Kazakh people . Get introduced to Kazakh style of nomad life and their traditions. Overnight in tents on a base camp. (B+L+D)

Day 8: free time in Ulgi town
Drive back to Ulgii town Accommodate at local hotel. (B+L+D)

Day 9: return to Ulaanbaatar, city tour
Today we fly to Ulaanbaatar 1636km. Free time. Dinner at the Ger Restaurant with traditional Mongolian food and entertainment. Overnight in Hotel. (B+L+D)

Day 10: Terelj National Park
After Breakfast we will return to UB, about 4 hours drive mainly on paved roads. Today will be visit the Gandan Monastery . Lunch at a lokal restaurant in Ulaanbaatar . Drive to the Khan Khentii mountains (37 miles). Turtle Rock and the dinosaur statues are the main attractions. After a field lunch the journey continues to the Princess ger camp. Relax a national Ger in the beautiful Khan Khentii Landscape. Bonfire and overnight in Princess Lodge. (B+L+D)

Days 11-12: Khan Khentii Protected Area, ox -cart Journey to the herder families
During the day there will be horse riding, or yak cart riding in the mountains and valleys, hiking and visiting the ruins of the Princess temple (5miles) and afternoon trip through the Camel-cart and visit to the Khangai range hospitable herder family. Introduce with Mongolian milk products and its making methods in the herder's family and taste them all as well. Camel-cart total detination including 2 sides 20 km. Dinner and overnight in ger camp. (B+L+D)

Day 13: Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast drive back to Ulaanbaatar (62miles). After lunch, tour the “ Gobi ” cashmere factory for shopping original and pure cashmere gifts and garments. Evening cultural performance. Gala Dinner and overnight in Hotel. (B+L+D)

Day 14: Journey home / exit
Breakfast at the hotel. Free time. Transfer to the airport or train station. (B)
